California Lawyers for the Arts is pleased to announce...
WHAT: "PUBLIC ART LAW: FROM BRONZE SCULPTURES TO MURALS"
You have just been awarded a commission to create a bronze sculpture
or a mural. Now what? An attorney, foundry owner knowledgeable in
bronze sculptures and a muralist will discuss the legal issues and
the nuts and bolts steps necessary for the artist's successful
completion of the project.
Speakers: Louis E. Greenwald, Esq., Sandy Decker (Decker
Studios-Fine Art Foundry Services), and Emily Winters, Muralist.
*This workshop was made possible, in part, by a grant from the City
of Los Angeles' Department of Cultural Affairs.
Louis E. Greenwald is an attorney who practices employment,
contract, and art law at the law firm Choi & Greenwald. Mr.
Greenwald represents artists, art galleries, art foundries, and art
appraisers. Mr. Greenwald has represented artists seeking payment
for services and seeking to prevent the destruction and/or
modification of their art. Mr. Greenwald has also drafted and
negotiated many contracts for artists, art galleries, art foundries,
and art appraisers.
Sandy Decker: DECKER STUDIOS FINE ARTS FOUNDRY SERVICES is a full
service fine arts Ateiler, providing a complete range of casting and
fabrication services. It's professional staff works in a vast range
of materials, including Bronze, Stainless Steel, Silver, Gold, and
Aluminum.
With their eight hundred square foot gallery they are able to
display a wide range of sculpture devoted entirely to bronze. The
staff at Decker Studios can assist and advise individuals,
designers, architects, hotels, banks, law firms, airports,
hospitals, and public spaces nationwide on bronze sculpture

Emily Winters is a Co-Founder and Chair of the Venice Arts Council,
and has been a resident of Venice for 43 years. The Venice Arts
Council serves as a forum for community input on public art,
promotes projects that include resident artists and their work, and
gives collaborative support to local arts organizations. Ms.
Winters is a graduate of the Chicago Art Institute where she majored
in figure drawing and painting. She studied painting and glazing
techniques with John Rodgers Cox
and also studied with Isabel McKinnon, a Bauhaus School advocate of
the Hans Hoffman space concept, among others. Recently, she has
started the process of refurbishing two of her murals in Venice that
have been badly damaged by tagging.

18th Street Arts Center presents "In Search of the Miraculous," new drawings, sculptures, photographs by Visiting Artist-in-Residence Diego Teo from Mexico City, on exhibit one night only, Saturday, May 26, 7pm-midnight. Also serving as a launch party for the latest issue of the art magazine, Rim, this site- specific event takes place at Libertad Soccer Club at 1410 Olympic Boulevard, Santa Monica. Diego Teo is a mixed media artist based in Mexico City. His referential and detritus-like objects derive their meaning from a discourse based on everyday objects and the urban environment and the meanings they acquire inside a number of socio- cultural contexts that the artist explores. His works have been shown in museums, galleries, and artspaces in Spain, Japan, Cuba, Poland, the USA, and throughout Mexico, including at Museo de Arte Moderno (Mexico City), 8th International Biennale of small graphic formand ex.libris (Ostrow, Poland), ARCO (Madrid, Spain), Feria ESCOU (New York), Casa de las Americas (Havana, Cuba), and Grupo Xix im (Uwa-Cho, Japan). Teo is the first visiting artist-in-residence to Los Angeles sponsored by the Jumex Foundation, a leading international supporter of art and cultural exchange based in Mexico.
Based in Los Angeles, RIM magazine is a dedicated to showcasing and exploring new contemporary art practices and artists in Mexico, Los Angeles, and beyond. RIM's founder and editor is Ichiro Irie, who is also an artist-in-residence at 18th Street Arts Center. Irie is also featured in a full-page article in last week's LA Weekly.

Brave New Films
The Impeach Gonzales campaign is going really well. Yesterday, we hit #1 most viewed video on all of YouTube. This is a big deal because it helps us reach a lot of new people who come to YouTube to check out the top videos. 150,000 people have seen the video so far, and over 40,000 have signed the petition. And it continues to grow.
