ILYA KAMINSKY is author of Dancing in Odessa (Tupelo), named "best poetry collection of 2005" by ForeWord Magazine. BRUCE BEGOUT is a philosopher and author of several books on America and the standardization of our existence, among them a philosophical essay on Las Vegas, Zeropolis: The Experience of Las Vegas ( Reaktion Books). He is currently working on a book about Los Angeles. JEFF BIGGERS is winner of the American Book Award and Lowell Thomas Award for Travel Journalism. He is author of In the Sierra Madre: A Travel Memoir, based on a one-year sojourn in a Raramuri (Tarahumara) village in Mexico's Copper Canyon, investigating the likes of Antonin Artaud, B. Traven, Eisenstein, Geronimo, and Pancho Villa. His previous work is The United States of Appalachia: How Southern Mountaineers Brought Independence, Culture and Enlightenment to America , highlighting figures such as Nina Simone, the folklife centers that birthed the civil rights movement, the poet Don West, and more.

I have a dream.
I have a dream that all bullies will get a taste of their own

GALLERY NIGHT OUT ON THE MIRACLE MILE ON OCTOBER 6th PRESENTED BY MID CITY WEST COMMUNITY COUNCIL RETURNS NEXT WEEK
Los Angeles – Based on the tremendous success in April and July, The Mid City West Community Council will again present a Gallery Night Out along Wilshire Blvd and La Brea Avenue, on Friday, October 6, 2006 from 6 pm to 10 pm. This Friday evening event will be a highlight of the 4th Annual TarFest, a local festival of film, music and art on the Miracle Mile, October 5-8.
More than twenty art galleries will once again open their doors as free shuttle busses make a continuous loop stopping at participating galleries.
An opening event will be held at 6pm at the “Wilshire Newsstand” at the corner of Wilshire Blvd. and Detroit. Honored guests will be present and buses will depart from that location. Appetizers will be served by Panini Restaurant.
A map of the galleries and bus stops will be available at each gallery and also on the community group's web site, http://www.midcitywest.org. Visitors are encouraged to pick up the shuttle every 20 minutes from 6-9:30pm at participating galleries which will have curbside balloons marking each stop.
The Gallery Night Out event continues to fill the streets with art lovers, including 4th District Councilmember Tom La Bonge. He stated “This is the kind of event which invigorates the community and brings culture to everyone”.
The Mid City West Community Council anticipates another successful event with many participating galleries.

Scharff’s collages from India and Nepal glow with the radiant colors of those dynamic cultures. They resonate with the commercial ‘street’ images, the flamboyance of saturated reds, oranges and blues, and the visual vibrancy of daily life. They are poetic icons of reverence to that life and the cultures in which she has explored, walked and worked.
Gathering the discarded petals of street life, she has synthesized these waste scraps into bright, compressed compositions, miniature memorials to the cultures she has encountered. She has said that “I have a need to connect with the world as a larger whole.” Margi Scharff’s work and her extraordinary experiences are unique to her. They glow with universality.

The Downtown Art Walk is a free, self-guided tour of the many art exhibition venues in Downtown Los Angeles - commercial art galleries, museums, and non-profit arts venues. Public information and a printable map of the Downtown Art Walk are available at http://www.downtownartwalk.com.
Participants in the Downtown Art Walk are the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), Los Angeles Public Library, Grey Goose, L.A. Artcore Center, 2nd Street Cigars and Gallery, de Soto, M. J. Higgins, bank, Crewest, The Regent Galleries, Pharmaka, Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, El Nopal Press, Bert Green Fine Art, INMO Gallery, Niche.LA/Lounge 441, Kristi Engle Gallery, Art Murmur Gallery, 626 Gallery, Gallery 727, The Hive Gallery, Infusion Gallery, IMG-81, Museum of Neon Art (MONA), and the Downtown Art Gallery.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive by public transit, as the Art Walk is easily accessible by the Red, Gold, and Blue line trains which run until midnight, and the area is well served by the DASH bus system until 6:30 pm. Parking is plentiful in the areas many paid lots and garages, at meters on the street until 4 pm, and free after 6 pm on most streets.
The Downtown Art Walk is sponsored by Pete's Cafe & Bar at 4th & Main Streets, and 213 Ventures' Golden Gopher and Broadway Bar. The Downtown Art Walk is a program of the non-profit Gallery Row Organization.----------------------------
